My Mentorship:
I have been blessed with the opportunity to be in Honors Mentorship. I am currently mentoring under Amy L. Greiner. Amy is a financial advisor for Edward Jones in the Dacula area of Georgia. On a typical day, I walk into the Edwards Jones office where I am greeted by my mentor's amazing BOA, Denise. I will sit in the waiting area where I look at the latest financial headlines and the movement of the markets for the day. After that, no day is the same. Each day brings something new and exciting, whether it be a wholesaler meeting, listening on a business call, or doing stock research. Over this past school year I have realized the quote, "Money never sleeps," is a very accurate description in the finance world. One of my main tasks is stock research. I use the Barron's Financial Newspaper mainly to research my mentor's client stock to see if there is any insight on them the and whether to buy, sell, or hold them. Through this research I have gained in-depth knowledge on what affects the price of a stock. I have also had the opportunity to learn about different investment options such as UITs, mutual funds, bonds, annuities, long-term care and life insurance, just to name a few. One of my favorite things that I have gotten to do is to pick investment options for a client, telling them which mutual fund or stock they should put their money into. While at my mentorship I have also had the opportunity of meeting various wholesalers from different companies, such as Brad from AIG. It is cool to see what different companies have to offer for investment plans. I feel Mrs. Greiner has done an amazing job in helping me get insight on the field of financial advising, which is hard to do because everything is confidential. I guess people don't want everybody knowing about their finances. I have had the opportunity to sit in on some client meetings though, with the consent of the client of course. The most memorable moment was when I got to attend a seminar at the 1818 club in Gwinnett where there was a speaker from J.P. Morgan. To sum it all up, the experience I had through honors mentorship blew my expectations out of the water. I have been able to learn far more than what I would have in the classroom and I would like to thank Mrs. Killingsworth and my mentor Amy Greiner for making this all possible and also Amy's BOA Denise.
